The Onlies are honored to help out a great cause by playing a couple of sets at the Great Northwest Irish Music Fest. It’s a benefit for the Leukemia and Lymphona Society, and will take place at A Terrible Beauty Pub in West Seattle. This is the last chance to see The Onlies at A Terrible Beauty until later in the summer, so stop on by.

The Onlies are going to be playing a short concert as part of a great old-time festival in Olympia this Saturday, February 18th. They will play in the Olympia ballroom from 1:00-1:30 as part of a kids showcase of concerts and dances. It’s worth a trip down I-5!

A Terribly Well Deserved HolidayThe Onlies are thrilled that school is winding down for the year, and they can kick back and enjoy a break from homework, some good times with friends, and fine tunes for the masses. They’ll be doing some busking, but also making their last appearance of 2011 in their favorite Irish pub, A Terrible Beauty in West Seattle. That’s Thursday, December 22nd from 5:30p-7:30p.
Join them for drinks and dinner, rockin’ good tunes, and maybe even buy a CD stocking stuffer or two (although you can also order them from this site).
The Onlies don’t have a gig until December 22nd at A Terrible Beauty. Until then, they will shiver like the native Seattle-ites they are.
If only they were a Florida or Hawaii based band!
In honor of that, we offer up a version of Florida Blues, as played by Riley and Johnny Calcagno. They recorded this track as part of a NW Folklife 2012 application. Stay tuned for more application tracks from Sami and her dad, and from Leo.
The Onlies are a fun band to watch, but they may be an even more fun band to dance to. Their next two public appearances will be at contra dance events. The first one is the venerable Lake City Contra/Old Time Country Dance on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 23rd. They’re sharing the bill with two young people bands, with calling by (slightly older) young callers. Last year’s dance was a gas – the video evidence is below.
On Sunday, November 27th from 3p-6p, they’ll be playing for the Rainbow Contra Dance at Washington Hall in Central Seattle, not far from Riley Calcagno’s ancestral home. For this event, they are the only band, and are practicing lots of fun sets.
Joining the Onlies for these two dance gigs is their very favoritest bass player of all time, RuthMabel Boytz. She rocks!
This Friday, November 11 is Veterans Day, and a day off for many, including the Onlies. To be honest, they’re most interested in sleeping in that day, but the night before they’ll be working hard and having fun playing tunes at West Seattle’s newish Irish pub, A Terrible Beauty, at 4752 California Ave. S.W. just south of the Junction. Sami and her peeps are back safe and sound from their exciting European travels, and the Onlies are excited to play together again.
First up is another little-kid oriented event on Saturday November 5th, and it should be way fun. It’s called the Building Blocks Festival, presented by Seattle Child magazine and Washington State’s Guaranteed Education Tuition Program. It’s a Festival & Preschool Fair for infants, crawlers, toddlers, preschoolers & their parents, with information and entertainment all day.
The Onlies will play from 9:15 to 10:15, so get there early!
