We are so excited and thrilled to be playing with this fantastic line-up of musicians! Should be a fun night… Hope to see y’all there!
Four must-sees at Northwest Folklife: Us, and us!
We’re soooooooooooooo dingdang excited for Northwest Folklife, for all the performers we get to see, and for the four performances we’re involved in. We hope to see you, either when we play as The Onlies, or we play on our own. Here’s our schedule:
- The Onlies: We promise to play a diverse selections of Celtic and American tunes, along with at least two songs we composed here in the Emerald City. 1:15 p.m. Saturday on the Fischer Green Stage. Here are the details.
- Riley and Johnny: Riley plays and sings old-time tunes with his da Johnny, at 4:15 p.m. Saturday on the Alki Court Stage. Billed as “Raging father, shredding son,” we’re still wondering who the copywriter is… 🙂 More info here.
- Sami: Sami plays a mostly Cape Breton set with her dad on piano at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, at the Northwest Court Stage. Details here.
- Leo: Justifying yet another day at Northwest Folklife, Leo plays with his teacher, the faboo Irish-style fiddler Dale Russ, along with other hot students, in a teacher/student event at 12:20 p.m. Monday, on the Northwest Court Stage. The fine print.
Who Likes Bikes?
The Onlies like a bike or three, and are super excited to perform at the 16th annual Bike Works Kids Bike Swap.
The swap will be held from 10 am – 4 pm at the Rainier Community Center (4600 38th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118), and The Onlies will play from 2p-3p. Come on down!
Decisions, decisions…

It’s gonna be a tough decision Sunday evening, May 6. Seattle banjo master and all around cool Indiana boy Charlie Beck‘s got a CD release party on Beacon Hill. Hmm.
And then in the north end of town, the Bee Eaters and their strange brew of newgrassy celticky old-timey fiddle/cello/dulcimery stuffola are playing a house concert along with bluegrass singer Laurie Lewis in tow.
All at the same time.
What to do???
What to do???
One thing we know. Charlie won’t be raising Michael Jackson from the dead.
Thursday, 4/12/12 – Listen and Dance to The Onlies!
The Onlies are looking forward to a couple of fun and exciting events on Thursday, April 12.
First, they’ll entertain college students (and the general public) with a noontime hour long concert at North Seattle Community College, at the college’s Espresso Lounge.
Later that evening they’ll pump out three hours of utterly fantastic dance music at the venerable Lake City Contra/Old-Time Country Dance, joined by their friend, the outstanding young bassist RuthMabel Boytz.
Both the concert and dance will showcase lots of new material and arrangements. These will be their last public performances for a little while, so don’t miss it.

Hey Stranger! – Arkansas Traveler
Last year, Riley did a recording at Empty Sea Studios with Paul Silveria (Professor Banjo) that was included on compilation CD of Paul’s musical pals. That track has been turned into a little video. Note that in one year someone’s voice has changed.
And here it is, children…
The Onlies play Portland!
The Onlies are going to be in Portland this coming weekend, and will play an early show at Mississippi Pizza Pub on Saturday night, March 10th from 6p-8p. They’ll be joined for a bunch of tunes by RuthMabel Boytz on upright bass, so there should be plenty of low notes to choose from.
The ever-wonderful duo of Caroline Oakley and Pete Leone have agreed to play some songs and tunes to kick off the evening, so don’t be late!
For punishment gluttons, the Onlies will also be playing a contra dance the next day as part of the Portland Roadhouse event. Woo hoo!
Irish Music Fest Benefit
The Onlies are honored to help out a great cause by playing a couple of sets at the Great Northwest Irish Music Fest. It’s a benefit for the Leukemia and Lymphona Society, and will take place at A Terrible Beauty Pub in West Seattle. This is the last chance to see The Onlies at A Terrible Beauty until later in the summer, so stop on by.
There sets are on Saturday, March 3rd, starting at 11:00am. A Terrible Beauty is 4752 California Ave SW, Seattle, WA WA 98116.
Oly Old-Time Music Festival!
Oly Old-Time Music Festival!
The Onlies are going to be playing a short concert as part of a great old-time festival in Olympia this Saturday, February 18th. They will play in the Olympia ballroom from 1:00-1:30 as part of a kids showcase of concerts and dances. It’s worth a trip down I-5!

Great slide show here.
