CD coming! Attend our CD release party!

The Onlie's 'Setting Out To Sea'
The Onlie’s ‘Setting Out To Sea’

We are so dang excited: Our CD’s gone to the printers and it should be available for download soon: 11 tunes, and three songs, and one heckuva good time.

Oh, and another heckuva good time: Our CD release party, 7:30 p.m. March 16 at Hale’s Palladium in Ballard. Come! We’ve asked our buddies The Barn Owls to open. It’s an all-ages event. Doors open at 7 p.m., and there’ll be food, soda, beer, wine. Cost is $10 adults, $5 for students (10 and under free).

More details in the weeks to come, including some video fun, behind-the-scene details on the CD and its tunes, and anything else we can think of. Oh yeah — maybe even a taste of the tunes!

See you March 16? We really hope so!

Hitting the books..

passed-out-studyingLots of learning going on these days for The Onlies, and not nearly enough sleep. That’s life as a high schooler. Come February, they’ll be some gigs, a dance or two, and tutoring at Wintergrass. Stay tuned for news of those things, a CD release party and a few out of town gigs. For now, though… zzzzzzzzzzzzz

More Music @ The Moore

widget_dO-lr2tgLi6zwfnr3xemTJLess than a month ago, we auditioned for a program called More Music at the Moore (sponsored by STG). This program is for young musicians (ages 14-21) to train and progress with the help of successful local musical mentors. At the end of the process, the young musicians will perform on stage at the Moore for an audience of almost 1,000. Most of the people who auditioned were singer-songwriters or pop music players…not as folkish or fiddleish. However, despite that, we got a callback! We performed again on the Moore in front of the judges (one song and one Irish tune–they liked the Irish one best!), and recently received the news that we made it! It will give us an opportunity to collaborate with other amazing young musicians from around the Northwest, and hopefully create some awesome sonicular explosions. We are super excited and feel massively honored to be selected! The performance will be sometime in March, and we will give you more information about it later. Here is a video documenting last year’s event.

Concert with the Gloria Darlings at the Hales’s Palladium

We are playing a concert with the Gloria Darling’s at the Hale’s Palladium Sunday folk circle series on November 25th. You might even get to see another “epic feast of awesome!” The Hales

Palladium is a huge circus like room that would be fun to make it feel full. 🙂

Here is the Facebook invite.

Here is the Gloria Darlings’ website.

Port Townsend Square Dance and Lake City Contra Dance!

We are playing the Port Townsend Square Dance at the sweet old grange hall over on the (insert geographical land type here) with Tony Mates calling on the 17th of November. Should be a charming, old fashioned night. Details here: http://www.ptcommunitydance.com/

And then on the night before Thanksgiving we are playing the Lake City Contra dance at the Lake City Community Center with Short Circuit and Michael Karcher and Tony Mates calling. So come out and brun your calories before the big meal… Details here: http://seattledance.org/contra/lakecity

This might be how you feel after dancing to some rockin tunes. Come on out!

October surprise: Oct. 7 concert on Beacon Hill!

Fiddle in fall foilage (and apples).Yes, we’re doing a concert, and we’re purty darned excited. Think of it as an ultra-suede preview of our upcoming CD, “Setting Out To Sea” (amid recording!). Oh, we’ll play some of that old traditional stuff, to keep the geezers happy. (Full disclosure: We’re probably the youngest geezers we know, and dang proud of it.) But we’ll probably debut a few of our shock-of-the-new tunes, so make sure to bring a solid pair of shoes.

The best part may actually be our opening act: Elena DeLisle, faboo singer, guitarist, banjo-ista, and Fiddle Tunes camping compadre, we looooove her exploratory tunage and are expecting wondrous things.

So, if you’re not doing anything Sunday night, Oct. 7, etch this gig into your schedule. If you are doing something, cancel it (TiVo that Panthers Seahawks game, already!). Come, have fun, revel in high-brow art and low-brow escapades. We promise to deliver.

Details:

7 p.m. at The Garden House
2336 15th Ave Ave. S., Seattle

$7 and kids under 12 free, doors open at 6pm for those wishing to order a dinner from a local restaurant.

See you then!!

The Lamplight Sessions! Featuring Riley and Leo…

Washington’s March

Leo and Riley were up late last night and decided to record an album! It has six tunes on it, both old-time and Irish, and we thought it might be fun to put one of them here and see what people thought of it. This is the first track, Washington’s March, featuring Leo on fiddle and Riley on the strummed fiddle. Eventually you will be able to purchase a $5 physical copy, with some cool album artwork that we just made. For now, give this a listen if you are so inclined!

Fun dance this weekend!

The Onlies are honored and excited to be playing a venerable and (hopefully crowded) contra dance in Seattle this Friday, the Emerald City Contra Dance at the Phinney Neighborhood Center. As grandpa used to say, we hear its the bee’s knees.

Here’s hoping no actual knees will be injured by the high energy music.

Matti Mero calls. All ages!

Wild and Scenic Music Festival!

This coming weekend (August 24th-26th), The Onlies will be taking a small road trip over to Leavenworth, WA to play at the Wild and Scenic Music Fest! We will be playing a barn dance on Friday night, and a show at “Canyon Wren” from 2:30-3:15 PM. We are all looking forward to it, and if you have a free weekend, and perhaps want to jam and listen to some AWESOME music from bands and people like Caleb Clauder, Danny Barnes, Hot Cider, The Onlies, and many more, you should come on down! See you there! Here is a video with more info: Wild and Scenic Festival

Summer will come. Really!

As of this writing it seems like summer will never come to Seattle. But it will come. It must!

The Onlies are excited for their summer, which will include festivals, camps, busking, CD recording, dances, gigs, and hopefully some spontaneous outbreaks of great music on the porch. Keep up with their doings here and on their Facebook page.
